Introduction

Hello! My name is Gyvel Young, owner/sitter of SecurePet, a professional pet sitting service for people who are particular about their pets' needs.

I'd like to welcome you to my web site and let you know that if business or pleasure takes you out of town, I'm ready to take care of your pets with the same loving attention that you would provide. I will also help working professionals by providing their dogs with a mid-day potty break ... and a nice walk.

My love and passion for animals—wild and domestic—is my primary reason for starting my own pet sitting business. As a lifetime pet owner, I saw the need for a reliable and conscientious pet sitter in the Wimberley and Blanco, Texas area, one that would go the “extra” mile. After all, the Texas Hill Country covers a lot of territory!

Experience

With over thirty years of experience caring for my own animals and those of others, I can give you my personal assurance that I will make your pet my top priority. Service and attention to detail are my biggest assets. While you are away, the security of your pet and home are my number one concern.

And—my experience working as a Field Agent Security Analyst with ADT Home Security provides me with the knowledge to perform a complete interior and perimeter security check.

Over the years, I have rescued six cats and given them a safe, secure, and loving home. Along with Moxie, Quigley, Sophie, Gracie, Ezra and Bartholemew, my heart is shared with my faithful canine companions Kaya, Shonee, and Atticus.

I consider volunteerism and community service to be an integral part of improving the life of unwanted, abandoned, and neglected companion animals. My volunteer experience has covered several humane societies, the SPCA, and locally A.R.F.: Animal Referral Friends of Wimberley, Texas. Recently, I was instrumental in launching a local dog rescue group.

It's possible you may have seen one of my books out there, too. In addition to being an author or various non-fiction books, I'm also the author of the cat book, “Meows: I Want It and I Shall Have It!

Education

I hold a degree in Communications and Accounting. However, these degrees are not likely to help me with companion animal care. As a result, I have spent several years taking animal-related college courses.

Currently, I am Pets for Life certified through the Humane Society University. This course series is designed for staff and volunteers of animal welfare organizations. It provideds the latest information and techniques available to improve animal handling, reduce the level of stress for the animal, and make more informed decisions regarding adoption matches.

I have successfully completed two veterinary technician college courses through Alfred State College: Small Animal Anatomy and Physiology, and The Mechanism of Disease in Companion Animals.

My current courses will result in a certification as a Canine Nutritionist. Additionally, I am working towards my degree in Applied Animal Behavioral Science.

When it comes to taking care of pets, I believe that you can never be too prepared. For that reason, I hold a Pet CPR Certification.

I hold certificates of completion for the following courses:

    • Interpreting Animal Behavior for Safe Handling
    • Bite Prevention for Law Enforcement Officers
    • Animal Handling & Stress Reduction
    • Companion Animal Behavior Assessment
    • SAFER Evaluation Certifcation
    • Clincal Anatomy & Physiology for Veterinary Techs
    • The Mechanism of Disease in Companion Animals
