Nutro Recalls Puppy Food!
After receiving a notification that Nutro foods was once again recalling their pet food I made an online investigation. After visiting both the Nutro website and the FDA website, I came up empty and thought it was perhaps a rumor. But thank goodness for our good friends over at Consumer Affairs who made this a priority. After some thorough investigating Lisa Wade McCormick confirmed that Nutro has recalled certain types of puppy food after pieces of melted plastic were found in the production line. This affects both dry dog food and cat food products.
According to the article the source of the plastic was a worker’s bump cap (similar to a hard hat) that somehow made its way into the manufacturing process. NUTRO states that, “We immediately retrieved the affected pet food from our distributors, and only three sku’s reached retail stores.”
The company spokesperson went on the say: “Based on our extensive review, it is highly unlikely that any pieces of plastic made it into finished product. However, upon learning of the incident, we voluntarily retrieved all potentially affected products.
The spokesperson further stated that currently the only NUTRO food distributed was the NUTRO puppy food which was shipped to PETCO and PetSmart stores in Arizona and California. However, the NUTRO website states that the food was distributed to six other states.
Here is what the NUTRO website states:

Read her article entitled The FDA ignores Pet Food Safety Deadline in the American Chronicle where she reveals the agency’s stalling tactics on the FDA Amendments Act that required the FDA to develop “Early Warning Surveillance Systems and Notification During Pet Food Recall.”
Better yet, visit her web site where you will find out the truth about pet food, which just happens to be the name of her web site!
This site truly represents the rights of pets to have safe foods, treats, and toys. Just as human consumers need consumer watch guard groups, so do pets. In fact, pets need them more since many people consider them to be expendable commodities or property. Neither one of these view points is true. For those who share their lives with their dear furry, scaly, or feathered friends, pets are family members. They need to be protected from harmful substances, insecticides, pharmaceuticals, and foods, just as we would protect other members of our family from harm
